"Welcome to The Beach House"

This is our getaway spot. Friends and family have enjoyed it for years. On this page, we hope you get a little idea of what our shack at the beach has meant to us over the years and a feeling about Charleston and the East Coast Beach culture. Click on the photos to be routed to several sites about Folly Beach. Enjoy ! Music is "Stay" by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs". I LOVE BEACH MUSIC

a few things to help you at the beachhouse

first...parking.. our house has 2 space in our back yard that are private... the parking in front of our house is public but if you are early and take those... you will have the back ones for your guests. Make sure that your wheels are off the pavement entirely or you WILL get a ticket... they love to ticket for that. there is a public access to the beach just across the street from the house as you are leaving the front yard go to the right and at the corner turn left ..you will see public ramps and bathrooms and outdoor showers there.. Also there is a parking lot that charges there if you need it for friends who come out on a busy day. For swimming...stay as far to the right of the fishing pier as you can ... fishermen throwing bait at the pier will lure ocean life there and you don't want to swim around the pier for that reason and because currents there are strong. There are great little restaurants on center st... 2 blocks from the house... just a tiny little walk. Great Mexican food at Taco Boy...try their shrimp quesadilla and the trio of sauces and cheeses with the chips on the appetizer menu.. super margaritas also. Lots of cool little shops there also... beach wear and trinkets and a tiny candy and ice cream shop. There is a spa on the beach as well...massage and facials etc. just off center st... across from a store called AQUA. There is a great fishing pier at Folly. Take a walk there even if you don't fish...beautiful feeling to be way out in the water like that. At night under the pier lights you can sometimes watch the mystical jellyfish swimming. Open your windows and doors....the breeze is great and crime is nonexistent there. If you drive all the way down to the East side of the beach you will come to a dead end. You can park there and walk to the lighthouse at low tide. Beautiful. The house has 3 bedrooms... one has a King and a trundle ( 2 twins that make a king) so if you need to you can separate them. One has a queen bed and one has a double bed with a little child's sleep sofa in it. The futon on the porch also makes a bed. Sheets and towels are there for you to enjoy..just make sure you leave them at the house when you pack. All open food has to be stored in zip lock bags... some in kitchen drawers. It will spoil in the humidity and also attract ants and bugs if you leave food out. Please take all the food that is open that you bring..home with you or throw it out... Sometimes we don't go out right away and it will spoil. If something is unopened and you want to leave it for convenience that is fine. Trash is on Monday and Thurs... cans are under the house.. they come early so you have to get up and get it on the back street before 8. there are beach chairs and floats etc...under the house. You are welcome to use them. Please have fun and enjoy the old shack... She is truly a treasure.

Frogmore Stew !

NO the stew does not actually have frog in it ! Friday night we hosted our new cadets and their families for a little frogmore stew and dessert out at the beach house. The original plan included grilling some brats and making s'mores over the open fire but alas , the rain took over and we were kept indoors. It was great meeting the families of Alex and Sutton, our new cadets. After about an hour, we all felt that we had known them for years. Now we see why the guys are so wonderful.
For those of you reading this who are not from the lowcountry, Frogmore stew contains the following:
Shrimp
Sausage
Corn on the cob
New potatoes.... all of this is cooked together in a huge pot with Old Bay Seasoning, an onion and a little lemon and them poured out onto a large platter. Everyone then digs in and you have cocktail sauce and butter for condiments. This is a traditional dish in Charleston when you have a big crowd.
The S'mores were still good even though we had to do them in the microwave... how can it not be good when you mix marshmallows, chocolate and cinnamon graham crackers? My sister, Cindy also brought a cheesecake so I think everyone went away full !!!
Once again the old house proved her worth. We spent the night and had coffee on the porch watching the shrimp boat on the horizon. A dishwasher and more counter space in the kitchen has moved up to the no. 1 priority for house improvements. AFTER THE WEDDING !
